Hand-crafted, One-of-a-Kind
All of our custom furniture is hand-crafted in Chilliwack, BC, a small town nestled in the Fraser Valley just outside of Vancouver. In a busy workshop, the Switzer family fashions one-of-a-kind and stock pieces that combine old character and traditional forms with customizable options to suit your needs.
Distinct, timeless pieces are built from solid pine (or reclaimed wood when available), in any size or configuration desired, and finished in any colour you choose. Hardware is available from Lee Valley tools, as well as vintage sources when available, or you can provide your own.
Hutches, Servers & Sideboards:
Pre-dating built-in cupboards, the simple and functional design of hutches (or stepbacks), servers and sideboards are fantastic for storing and showing off tableware. These pieces also provide an elegant serving platform as well as extra counter space.
Custom options include size and colour, as well as any configuration of doors (wood or glass) and drawers.
Tables:
Our sturdy rectangle and square table designs not only stand up to daily use, they are an elegant and beautiful foundation for formal occasions too. Most often made from solid pine, we can also use reclaimed wood for the surface when available, and actual antique or vintage table legs.
Custom options include size and colour, as well as handy accessory drawers.
Benches:
Our most popular custom pieces, benches come in all shapes and sizes. Small ones can double as stepstools, ottomans, or side tables. Larger ones, ideal for an entryway or wide hallway, have under seat compartments that can be fitted with baskets for extra tidy storage.
Shelves & Bookcases:
Versatile display and storage for kitchen, living room, den, bathroom, or bedroom spaces, our shelves and bookcases are available in any configuration with optional doors (panel, glass, or beadboard). We can build bookcases to suit any space in your home.
Custom options include the number of shelves (fixed or adjustable), and optional doors.
Armoires, Cabinets & Dressers:
For television, clothing or other storage, armoires and cupboards are a handsome infusion of character for any room in the home. And get organized with a custom traditional-styled dresser made just for your things. If you've got a lonely corner in your living room, dress it up with a corner cabinet, perfect for displaying books and your favorite collectibles.
Children's Furniture:
Pint-sized pieces are also available, just for kids. Dressers, shelves, tables, stepstools, totes and more can be custom built in any size and colour, perfect for those small of hand and short of height.
Home & Garden Décor:
We love creating new things out of old. A mirror crafted from a reclaimed wood window frame is a great highlight for a windowless wall. In your garden or on your patio, enjoy a sturdy potting shelf, outdoor bench or wheelbarrow planter made of aged wood salvaged from barns, farmyard fences, and other sources. - What is a stepback?
- It's a type of hutch in which the top cupboard portion is stepped-back (hence the name) to allow for a large open serving surface.
- How long does it take to have a custom piece made?
- Between 2 and 6 weeks, depending on the size and nature of the piece and the current production schedule.
- Do you ship Canada-wide?
- Yes. Special arrangements can be made to ship items across the country.
- Do you make built in cabinets or kitchen cupboards?
- No, unfortunately. We only build free-standing furniture pieces.
